On December 12th, Rockford, MI-based manufacturer, Byrne, sent a few members of the team to Interior Design Magazine’s Best of Year (BoY) Awards Ceremony in New York. As the industry's premiere design award, BoY pays tribute to the year’s most significant contributions while also recognizing designers, architects, and manufacturers from around the globe.
Byrne’s newest product—Thesis™—celebrated as one of four finalists in the Technology Category, took home the top honor when winners were announced live at the event.
Expertly designed from top to bottom, Thesis is a portable power solution designed around versatility – to meet the diverse needs of as many users in as many spaces as possible. For compact, convenient storage, Thesis recharges in a stack, with only one cord needed – no bulky charging hub or special platform required. With several charging port options and integrated wireless charging, Thesis provides power to multiple users and their devices at once. Thesis’ flexible design seamlessly delivers portable charging to any environment. And in nine knockout colors, it does the job stylishly too.
Parker Genau, Industrial Designer at Byrne was there for the big event and comments on how Thesis is helping to shape how we power our days. “With the world leaning toward more hybridized work and education, easy access to charging is a real issue,” says Genau. “Thesis bridges that gap in both landscapes, bringing power and charging to any space that needs it.” When asked about the process of how Thesis came to be, Genau shares that, “The initial thinking behind Thesis was born through exploration of a battery platform product set years ago. At the time, we didn’t see a significant need for it, so we kept the concept in our back pocket. But as technology kept evolving, we saw user needs evolve as well. Our Human-Centered Design (HCD) process led us back to the idea, to help solve today’s demands for increased power mobility.”
Byrne’s product development process dives into understanding real life use case scenarios, working environments and individual habits - connecting those with the latest charging technology, allowing their team to home in on features that elevate both form and function. Robust collaboration between designers, engineers, and even users themselves support the iterative process until the final solution is achieved.
Ideal for conference rooms, collaborative and lounge areas, classrooms, dedicated workstations, and just about anywhere else, Thesis delivers 245 watts of lightweight, portable charging with enough muscle to even power laptops. Thoughtfully designed for mobility, Thesis includes a friendly carrying loop, allows for integrated wayfinding to track power on the move, and offers mounting brackets for those times when you want tall that power to stay put.
“This product launch has opened a huge door for us in portable power—underscoring that our development process works and that we’re more capable of solving customer problems than ever before,” says Kristen Hummel, Senior Brand Marketing Manager at Byrne. “Our team put a lot of passion into this project, and we’re so proud to see it gain the recognition it deserves.”
